Protugal - The Moorish Castle
The Moorish Castle lay between our house and the Pena Palace, so we stopped there on our way back down the hill. This is a pickture of the castle taken from the palace, so you can see that is is relatively close.
Much of the lower area has been grown over, but the vegetation is kept manageable. There was a lot of work going on and I get the feeling it is fairly continuous. There was also an archeological dig going on with information about where the most recent findings (skeletons) were found.
The castle was massive and spread out. A lot of ground to cover.
David studies the map pondering the best way to attack seeing this castle...
Do you see? There is a daughter in each torret opening below...
What you don't see is Jay standing in the torret holding Bella by her feet up to the window.
There was a wonderful view of Sintra all around.
We met up with the British contingent as they were coming around the other direction.
There we a lot of outlooks to explore
including this one which everyone was very careful to climb up and down. To the left of Maggie was a sheer drop off which would have hurt.
The girls stopped to take a rest in our climb up to the highest point of the castle.
Queen Isabella ruling over her kingdom....
We are now at the highest point looking down on where we came from. Quite a climb!
It was all downhill from there!
