It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
FINALLY! The baking and decorating began!
It turns out that Swiss teachers are supposedly offended when they are given gifts other than homemade items, as the belief is they are simply doing their jobs and gifts may be seen as bribery. Of course, this tidbit of information is coming from an expat board, so there is always the chance something is lost in translation. In the off chance that we have been annually offending said teachers, this year our plan was to bake, bake, bake and that would be the basis of teacher gifts. :)
We made five of Grandmom's cookie recipes, Aunt Janie's zucchini bread (in muffin form), and lemon poppy seed muffins, which do not hold a candle to my favorites from Giant.
Everything turned out Wunderbar!
Normally we like to get the tree up Thanksgiving weekend. This year, the third Sunday of Advent came, and almost went, without a tree. But, it is up and decorated.
Bella was the motivation behind the whole decorating experience this year. She was raring to go!
It is amazing how our little 25 franc tree, dragged through the streets of Zurich five years ago, transforms from this.....
to this...
Bella is now tall enough to put on the star without any additional help.
Maggie was getting into the mood when a song she liked momentarily blasted from the stereo speakers. That smile turned into a pouty lip very quickly when Manheim Steamroller almost instantaneously replaced her choice of music.
David and Bella spent some time decorating the flat with many homemade items from Christmas past.
These angels were made and sold by the St. Rose Senior Girl Scout troop many moons ago as a fundraiser for a trip. One angel is missing her wreath, but otherwise they've held up well.
I hate to admit that I'm not sure if this is one of Maggie's or Bella's creations, but my guess would be Maggie.
This is a cherished decoration from David's childhood...
The Manger is set up. Mary and Joseph await the baby Jesus, an act we imitate each year...

Okay time to move on! it really is past Christmas and into the new year. Enough said. The Nativity made from the flower pots actually came from OLV and the sodality's Christmas bazaar many years ago. Had thought at the time would be a girl scout project as the pots would be available easily. Now how about some updates?
